Surfing Beaches In North Devon

North Devon has several good quality surfing beaches. It's location means powerful swells from the Atlantic ocean, gives good clean waves all year long . Due to the quality and consistency of the waves in North Devon, many surfers travel to surf along this coast.

Croyde is considered to be one of the best surfing beaches in the South West, and in fact the whole world, and attracts some of the top surfers from far and wide. Croyde’s 800m long bay is sheltered and although it is one of North Devon’s smallest beaches it’s arguably one of the best for the short boarders. Croyde is ideally situated for Treetops as it’s the next village along the coast from Braunton.

Saunton is a three mile stretch of coastline just half a mile from Croyde. Although very close together the surf here is very different and is popular with long boarders. With three miles of sand, overcrowding is never an issue on this beach.

Woolacombe Beach, is an award-winning beach a short drive from Treetops. The beach is a three mile long stretch of sand, so overcrowding is never usually a problem, even in the the height of summer. Woolacombe waves have a lovely beach break which surfs well throughout the tide and is perfect for all abilities. You can also enjoy the ride on either long or short boards.

Further out, but always worth visiting is Westward Ho! Similar in length to Saunton and Woolacombe this beach has a famous pebble ridge, and is ideal for beginners.

Cycling In North Devon

Exploring North Devon by bike is to really experience its full beauty. There are lots of cycle routes, paths and trails to choose from, with the most famous being the Tarka Trail, a traffic free 32 mile cycle trail which runs from Braunton to Meeth in North Devon. The flat and family-friendly trail travels through beautiful countryside, offering stunning views across the estuaries of the River Taw and Torridge with many picnic spots, cafes and pubs along the route.
